Last month a Politico/Morning Consult Poll showed there are five gun safety policies that two out of every three Americans support. But for our purposes, let’s focus on the 80-percent-ers.
There are the three policies that are supported by at least 80% of the American people.
88% of us want Universal background checks
80% of us want the age to buy guns should be raised to 21
80% of us want a three day waiting period
So why can't we get these 80-percent-ers done?
This is not Republicans disagreeing with Democrats, this is Republicans disagreeing with the American people.
Now, I have friends who are all about the 2nd amendment. I have heard all of their arguments:
Like “You cannot legislate safety” – well, we have seatbelt laws, speed limits and car standards that have made driving safer.
Or “It’s a mental health problem” — in that case, when are Republicans going to fund mental health programs?
And now the new one is blaming it on “weed.”
Republican elected officials will continue to play the blame game. But this much remains clear: Republican politicians are NOT the voice of the people! Elected Republicans in Washington don’t support these common-sense gun safety policies:
Universal background checks
raising the age to buy guns to 21
three day waiting periods
Gun violence is a stain on our America fabric. Ultimately, we are getting screwed because the gun lobby has spent a ridiculous amount of money convincing people into being absolutists on an issue that most people are actually sensible about.
Courage isn’t putting as many guns in your Christmas card as possible or trying to seem tough by shooting a gun in a tv ad (I mean come on, there’s no way you can make Ted Cruz look tough — believe me, he would've done it already if it was possible and the beard was his best shot).
Courage is listening to the will of the people, listening to the younger generation who is being dramatically impacted and doing something to help solve this problem in the only country in the world that has this problem.
So join me, and 80% of your fellow Americans, by demanding lawmakers pass the 80-percent-ers.
No, it's not perfect, and no, it won't prevent all gun violence but maybe, just maybe, it can help reduce this madness and create a culture of actual action, discussion and debate.
YOU’RE PROBABLY (ALSO) GETTING SCREWED BY:
MONOPOLIES
Lack of competition leads to unchecked market rates. Here industrial gas could be less than $1 per pound or as high as $6
CEOS
As workers salaries in the private sector fail to keep up with inflation CEO pay increased 17%.
The 2022 Simpsons would be considered low income and not middle class like when the show started… Mr. Burns, on the other hand, is doing very well…
In a great example of what the current American economy look like, Tesla is laying off 10% of their workforce while Elon Musk is expected to get a $23 billion bonus.
CONSOLIDATION
More than 40% of US farmland is owned by people older than 65, so hundreds of millions of their acres will transfer to new owners in the coming years. Foreign ownership of farmland is now more than the size of the entire state of Ohio… This is a National Security issue and we need to focus on food security!
PRIVATE EQUITY IN HOSPITALS
Want to hear something troubling? “An estimated 40-plus percent of the country’s hospital emergency departments are overseen by for-profit health care staffing companies owned by private equity firms!” Financial managers shouldn’t be making E.R. decisions!

80% of Americans support these three gun safety laws. So what's the holdup?
Absolutely...if we worked more on solving the causes of social issues rather than just punishing offenders to get votes from scared, angry people, and if corporate money wasn't ruling our government policies and actions, we, the people would certainly be benefiting from policies and standards approved by the "consent of the governed"...
